Dear Women, You Are Needed in Corporate Worship. Period.

I recently threw out a question to some girls I knew were involved in worship in their local church. 

The question: What's your biggest hurdle in leading worship?

The answers: "Incompetence." "Myself." "Not allowing lies about my worth or abilities to get in my head." "Fear of public speaking.""Being too tough on my team.""My voice cracks.""Not being able to control perfection.""What others are going to think of me.""Not being good enough of a musician."

What's really being said here: I am afraid.

Me too.

How many of us are halted by fear? It stops us in our tracks and entices us with comfort. Or it taunts us with the what if's and how comes. What if you can't _____________? How come he/she can _______________ and not you? You don't need to put yourself out there, it says. It's too hard, too scary, too much money. 

Deeper still, the cause of fear is the "unknown." When we can't see two or three steps ahead of us, a quiver of panic sets in and we begin to doubt our worth, credibility or capability. 

So what is the conqueror of fear? Miss Parks and I believe it is knowledge. 

Though fear may still be present, I can confidently walk past its illusionary barrier if I can learn and shed some light on that which I am fearful of. 

Monsters under the bed? Turning the light on will prove otherwise.

This is the vision of One Half Worship Coaching. To turn the light on woman's fear of the stage, the talent, and the journey of becoming a modern day worship leader.

Local churches need both male and female to step into partnership of leadership. For so many decades, male leadership was made to be the most natural decision in church leadership. But I believe we are entering a new and exciting era of unlocking the entire other half of passionately powerful and effective leaders. 

God's design for the Church is this:

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers,to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood,to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.  

Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. (Ephesians 4:1-17)

Men are ineffective without women. Women are ineffective without men. Both are vital and necessary for health and potency of the Church. (Tweet that!) The whole body, working together, pushing through fear, will change the world. 

So friend, do not be afraid, for you are part of a much bigger powerhouse.

Women (Not Yet) in Worship

Dear Women (not yet) in Worship,

You know who you are.

You're sitting close enough to the front to feel the music loud, but a couple rows back so no one really, really notices you singing your heart out. I see you.

You come to church every week, a tad early, and rarely late. However, it's not because you're one of those people who show up before the previews in a movie theater (you know who you are), but because you'd rather push over that greeter than miss the first song. And if you do come in a little late, you're singing the minute you hear the words clear enough. I see you.

You don't look at the slides anymore because you know nearly every song by heart and you can close and lift your eyes to the heavens with freedom. I see you.

What you may lack in confidence or vocal technique, you make up for in passion and soul. I see you.

You sit in that chair every week, silently wishing you had the courage, the time, or the voice to join the team. I see you.

You start doubting that nudge you feel every week that says Go ahead, try out, you can do it. I see you.

You have made the stage an untouchable mirage you only daydream about stepping onto. I see you.

I'm here to tell you, the stage, the platform that seems so high and far off, it's built on brokenness, failures, doubts and inadequacies. (< Click to tweet.)

The stage isn't a badge of holiness, but rather a badge of humility. (tweet, tweet?)  There is no room for pride when it comes to leading God's people; only prayer, passion, and perseverance.

You are a powerhouse, not because of who you are, but because of Whose you are. You were created for a specific purpose, and if you aren't living into that purpose, the Church, your brothers and sisters,  are crippled. Health comes when every part is working and moving.

It's okay to be scared. It's okay to be nervous.
It's okay that your voice isn't what it once was or what it should be.
It's okay you'd rather die than speak in public.
We can push our way past all that and watch God transform you.

I see you. I believe in you. Take the chance, ask for an audition or opportunity, and then equip yourself.

It's your time to move.

Shoreline Music Night of Worship

I'm so honored and excited about being a part of the No Height, No Depth Project with my new friends at Shoreline Music in Austin, Texas. When people ask how we like leading out here I tell them two things:

1) We LOVE it. We feel like we've been at this church forever and the people are amazing.
2) Our band is a perfect combination of everything awesome and weird. We are misfits fusing together into something brand new.

Every person in this video is a friend. Every person has a heart for the Church. Every person has passion and purpose in their instrument or craft and every person has been placed on this team by God himself.

It really is electrifying. Sometimes in a bad way (haha), but mostly good.

If We Were on a Coffee Date | No. 13

If we were on a coffee date, I'd be like, "HOLY CRAP DID YOU SEE WHAT TYSON GOT ME FOR CHRISTMAS?!"

If we were on a coffee date, you'd be like, "YOU ALREADY OPENED YOUR PRESENTS?!"

If we were on a coffee date, I'd be like, "Yes. We suck at Christmas."

If we were on a coffee date, we'd laugh it out and then I'd unveil the gloriousness that is my new espresso machine. Then I'd make you a latte. Or macchiato. Or cappuccino. Whichever you prefer. 

If we were on a coffee date, I'd probably end up telling you the story of how we came to open presents early and how since our first Christmas, I have guessed my presents dead on. 5-0, Jules. 

If we were on a coffee date, Tyson would probably chime in from the peanut gallery (because we'd be at my house. And on latte #2). But don't let that fool you, he's just as caffeinated excited as I am about opening this present early. 

If we were on a coffee date, I'd ask what your favorite Christmas gift was. I love hearing people's favorite things. It tells me a lot about you, knowing what makes you happy. 

If we were on a coffee date, we'd probably sit on the subject of memories forever. Everyone has them, good and bad. Holidays have a weird way of forcing introspectivity (is that even a word?) and sometimes we just need to process out loud. 

At least I do. Maybe you do too.

The Ground is Breaking

There is something new around the corner. Something's about to burst open in this world. The rumble beneath the earth is the sound of evil scrambling. Fighting harder to stay prevalent, relevant. 

But it will not prevail. 

We have a promise, from One who has yet to break a single promise, that even the fiery gates of hell itself cannot eliminate. 

This is the rock on which I will put together my church, a church so expansive with energy that not even the gates of hell will be able to keep it out.

And that’s not all. You will have complete and free access to God’s kingdom, keys to open any and every door: no more barriers between heaven and earth, earth and heaven. A yes on earth is yes in heaven. A no on earth is no in heaven. (Matthew 16:18-19 MSG)

Another translation says, 

I will build My church, and the gates of Hades (the powers of the infernal region) shall not overpower it [or be strong to its detriment or hold out against it].

I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind (declare to be improper and unlawful) on earth must be what is already bound in heaven; and whatever you loose (declare lawful) on earth must be what is already loosed in heaven.  (Matthew 16:18-19 AMP)

Meaning, there is nothing that will keep the movement of the Spirit, through the vehicle of the Church, from churning faster and faster and faster. 

Restoration is God's plan. Redemption. Salvation will be had for the earth and those who dwell in it. 

Something is coming. 

Something is awakening. 

The ground is breaking and light is bursting forth, even brighter today than it was yesterday.

Look for it and I promise, you will find it.

How to Change Someone's Tomorrow

A sisterhood isn't created by organized gatherings. It starts first with regular, ordinary life; seemingly small decisions that will ripple into the future, affecting lives in ways we might never know the fullness of.

Shanna's story makes me cry, not tears of sorrow, but tears of thankfulness for the beautiful loving girls in the world. I want to be one of them.

"So I want you to remember, when you look at your mom, she's not just a housewife. She's not just a person that picks up your clothes and clean the house, she's a hero. She's my hero. And she saved my life."

Who we love on today might change their tomorrow. Don't forget that.

Jewelry with Meaning | Gracewear Collection

You guys, I finally found proof Symphony is my child! (Minus the whole child-birth thing.) Accessories! I mean, most of the world can tell this kid belongs to Tyson Morlet. #twinsies But she possess very few Mama features so far. 

Until now. She loves accessories. And "love" is an understatement. She plays with them most the day and can spot them like a detective in the stores. She wants all her necklaces on before breakfast and will wear them any time we leave the house. (I guess I should be grateful it's not a boisterous costume or anything. Yet.) 

The funniest part is how we discovered this obsession. We were at a friend's house and Symphony and their little girl had disappeared for a little while. It's their norm for them to play sweetly and quietly for a good amount of time. I got up to check on them and I heard this jingling sound coming from the room. 

Awe, they're playing with the musical instruments, I thought to myself as I rounded the corner. 

Nope.

There was my daughter, covered from head to toe in nearly every fashion accessory this little girl owned. I mean everything. Tiara, headbands, 45 necklaces (Minimum!), rings, bracelets and of course the pink sparkling heels. 

I died. 

Since then I've been scouring thrift stores, Forever 21 sales section, and website to find jewelry for my girl. That's when I met Gracewear. 

Their collection of adult stuff is beautiful, but their jewelry for girls is what caught my attention. They've found a way to make delicately sweet pieces for girls that hold so much meaning and inspiration.

Based on Ephesians 6 and the armor of God, Gracewear's jewelry was created to remind it's wearer that the armor of God never leaves us. It's something we wear everyday, as followers of Christ and it's not just an accessory. It's a weapon meant for battle. A shield meant for safety. A sword meant to bring light and cut the darkness that surrounds us. 

As you can see from the photos above, Sym adores her bracelets and I can't wait for her to start comprehending the meaning of the jewelry she loves so much. She wears them everyday, naturally, and I can't wait to teach her how significant that really is. Not that the jewelry will protect her, but that it reminds us the One who will.
